Scheduling a block to appear and disappear

3 min read

Every custom block can decide for itself when it is on the card and when it is not. That is per block, not per card — so one card can hold a seasonal offer, an event link and a permanent contact button side by side, and each comes and goes on its own dates.

Scheduling is a free feature.

The two modes #

At the bottom of every custom block, below its own fields, is a group called When to show it. It has two radio buttons.

Scheduling a block to appear and disappear 1 - Documentation for Easy Social Share Buttons
Open any block to edit it. Drag the handle on the left to reorder, and Remove this block takes it away.
ModeWhat it does
Always showKeeps this block on the card for good. The default.
Schedule appearanceTakes the block off the card and puts it back by itself.

The hint under the buttons spells out the difference: Always show keeps this block on the card for good. Schedule appearance takes it off and puts it back by itself.

The window #

Choosing Schedule appearance reveals two date and time fields:

FieldWhat it does
Show fromThe block appears at this moment.
Show toThe block disappears at this moment.

The hint underneath says the thing that matters most: Leave both empty to keep this block on the card for good. Fill in one and it comes and goes.

So the three useful configurations are:

  • Only Show from — the block appears on that date and stays until you remove it. A new shop, a new talk, a new book.
  • Only Show to — the block is there now and disappears on that date. A discount that ends, a booking window closing.
  • Both — the block exists only between those two moments. A conference, a season, an offer.

The Scheduled badge #

Once a block has a window, its row in the list carries a small clock icon and the word Scheduled. Hovering it says This block only appears between the dates set below.

The badge is in the row heading rather than inside the body on purpose: the body is hidden when a row is collapsed, and a collapsed row is what you are looking at when you have fifteen blocks and want to know which ones are temporary.

It deliberately does not say whether the block is live right now — that would need a live timer, and the answer is given inside the row instead.

The status note #

Open a scheduled block and, if it is not live at this moment, a note appears in the block body saying which way round it is:

SituationWhat it says
Not started yetScheduled to appear on 14 November 2026 at 09:00. It will not be shown before then.
Already endedScheduled to disappear on 30 November 2026 at 23:59. It is not being shown now.
Start is after the endThe start date is after the end date, so this block will not be shown. Check the two dates.

The date and time are written out in your site’s own date and time format, so they read the way you write them.

NoteThe editor still draws the block while it is scheduled out, because the person editing it is not a visitor. You can always see what you are working on.

The rules #

  • No dates means always shown. A block whose dates cannot be read is also shown. Only a contradictory window is withheld, so a mistake surfaces in the editor rather than being silently hidden.
  • The end is exclusive. A block that stops “at 9am” is gone at 9am.
  • All times are your site’s local time. A stored date is a wall-clock reading rather than an instant, and it is compared as digits. If your site moves timezone, the wall-clock reading is what people typed, which is usually what you meant.
  • Always show wins over stale dates. A block explicitly set to Always show is permanent even if dates are still sitting in the boxes. The dates are kept on save, so switching back to Schedule appearance restores the window you had.
  • Hidden blocks are removed, not emptied. A scheduled block that is not live is skipped entirely rather than printed as an empty row, so a hidden divider cannot distort the spacing around the blocks that are showing.

Worked examples #

A Black Friday offer #

Add a custom link block for your sale. Set Schedule appearance, Show from to Black Friday morning, Show to to Cyber Monday end. For the rest of the year the block is not on the card at all, and you never have to remember to remove it in January.

An event with a registration deadline #

Add a link block for the event page and a Calendly block for booking. Give both a Show to of the day before the event. Both disappear together when registration closes.

A permanent divider around a temporary button #

Put a divider block above the seasonal offer and one below it, and schedule all three for the same window. They appear and vanish as a group, which is tidier than a single button appearing on its own.
