Overview #
Note
The internal share counter option is located in the Sharing -> Share Counters Setup screen.

The Internal Share Counter allows you to display share counts even when social networks don’t provide official data. It works by tracking user interactions with your share buttons, giving you full control over how engagement is displayed on your site.
What is the Internal Share Counter? #
Not all social platforms support share count APIs anymore. With this feature, you can still show share numbers by counting how many times visitors click your buttons.
These values:
- Appear on each individual share button
- Contribute to the total share count
How It Works #
Every time a user clicks a share button, the system records the action and increases the internal counter. This creates a reliable alternative to external APIs and ensures your share counts are always available.
Key Features #

Display Counters Without API Support #
Show share counts for networks that don’t offer official data. The internal counter uses button clicks to generate values, so your buttons always display engagement.
Overwrite Official Counters with Internal Values #
You can replace official API-based counts with internal values.
This is useful when:
- A social network removes access to its share counter
- You want consistent numbers across all platforms
- You need a backup solution
Simply enable the option and select which networks should use internal values. You can also manually set values if needed.
Manage Share Values Per Post #

You also have the ability to manually manage share counts for individual posts. This gives you precise control over how engagement is displayed on specific content.
For example, you can:
- Set custom share values for a post
- Adjust counts to match campaign data
- Boost visibility for important or featured content
This flexibility is especially helpful when migrating from another platform or aligning displayed numbers with your marketing strategy.
When Should You Use It? #
The Internal Share Counter is ideal when:
- You want full control over share counts
- Social networks don’t provide reliable data
- You need a backup solution for API changes
- You want consistent tracking across all buttons
Important Note #
Internal counters are based on button clicks, not confirmed shares on social platforms. While they provide a strong indication of engagement, the numbers may differ from official data.
This feature ensures your share buttons always look active and engaging, regardless of changes in social network APIs.
